Arts Politics Graduate Students only
2 points
This is a weekly session that brings artists and other guest speakers to present their work and engage in a dialogue with the students. Guests are selected on the basis of their own innovative work. The colloquium is divided between presentation and discussion, with the latter oriented toward an analysis and evaluation of the individual’s practice. Speakers will range from those whose own art work displays an activist orientation or interest, to those who work in various organizational settings such as NGO’s and nonprofits, or in various governmental arts agencies at the local, state, or federal level. Also of interest are those working in academic settings who can reflect on what the academy makes available for arts politics and what specific kinds of controversies and problems it poses. Students themselves will have an opportunity to identify individual guests or areas of interest that they would like to pursue in the seminar. The convening faculty member is responsible for inviting and introducing the speaker and facilitating the discussion, although this may also be done in collaboration with interested students.
